Lula Holiday Movie Marathon

Lula Holiday Movie Marathon

What’s better than cozying up on the couch with friends and family to watch your favorite holiday movie? Doing it while you share a bottle of Lula wine, of course! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite holiday movies and wine pairings for your enjoyment this holiday season. Whether you’re a fan of comedy, sports, or classic films—we have something for everyone.

Transport to a Winter Wonderland

If you’re flipping through the channels on Christmas Eve, you are guaranteed to find an airing of one of the most beloved classic Christmas films, It’s a Wonderful Life. This 1946 film starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed shares the story of an angel sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. It’s not always a happy film, but it will certainly make you appreciate the beauty of life.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, we never say no to Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause. When a work-obsessed single father inadvertently makes Santa fall off of his roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place. Both these films have a little bit of Christmas magic interwoven into them, and whether you choose to watch one or the other (or both!), we recommend pairing with our Winter Wonderland Holiday 2-Pack. Featuring our 96-Point 2019 Lula Vineyard Pinot Noir and our 93-Point 2018 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, this pack will wow any Pinot Noir lover or make a new fan of Lula Cellars. And of course, you can’t watch a movie on an empty stomach! Enjoy with a Cream of Mushroom Soup, or go all out with a Prime Rib dinner.

For the Sports Fan

Maybe you’re recovering from a family game of touch football, or perhaps you’ve just spent a few hours sitting in a hockey rink cheering on your cousin’s team. Either way, we have just the films to keep you in the sporty holiday spirit. Considered by some as the most entertaining film in the Rocky franchise, Rocky IV is undoubtedly one of the most underrated Christmas movies of all time. Whether it’s the festive setting, the battle of naughty vs. nice, or the feel-good ending, it will undoubtedly get you in the holiday spirit.

Another equally underrated holiday sports film is Miracle—the true story of Herb Brooks. This player-turned-coach led the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to victory over the seemingly invincible Soviet squad. Aside from the fact that there is an actual Christmas scene in the movie, the film is uplifting and ultimately about family. Of course, we recommend our Sports Fan Holiday 3-Pack to be enjoyed while watching these movies. Included in the pack is our Guntly Red (Red Wine Blend), 93-Point 2018 Costa Vineyard Pinot Noir, and our newly released 2019 Zinfandel. This versatile lineup makes each wine a go-to for all movie viewing sports fans, and for the game day menu, pair it with Stuffed Jalapeño Peppers, a hearty Chili, or Grilled Cheese Sandwiches for a slam dunk!

Enjoy with Friends & Family

Something magical occurs when a movie can be equally enjoyed by the kids, the parents, and the grandparents, and there are two holiday movies that accomplish this feat: Elf and Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. While the lead characters in these films may be foils—Buddy the Elf, a lover of all things Christmas that just wants to spread holiday joy to everyone he encounters, and The Grinch, a wicked creature that despises all things Christmas and hopes to ruin it for the holiday-obsessed village people of Whoville—these two films actually have a lot in common. They will make you laugh, they will make you cry, and they will make you appreciate family and the meaning of Christmas. Plus, they are movies for the whole family to enjoy together.

And while the kids may not be able to enjoy Lula wines while watching these films, we’ve got the adults covered with our Friends & Family Holiday 3-Pack. Showcasing the diversity of the wines we produce from Mendocino, this trio features the 2020 Chardonnay, 94-Point 2018 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. Whether you’re enjoying them over a holiday movie-watching gathering or opening them up after the kiddos fall asleep mid-film, these are some of our beloved wines that will provide entertainment on their own. Plus, we recommend you enjoy these films with Artichoke Crostini, Winter Salad, or Baked Ziti.

Magnum Marathon

When we think of a holiday movie marathon, one delightful franchise takes the cake: Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Home Alone 3. Even if you’re not a fan of the departure from the original cast in Home Alone 3, the first two films in the series are enough to be considered “marathon viewing.” There’s something about watching a resourceful child outsmart a band of crooks over and over again that calls for a magnum of our 2018 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. With 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and a Gold winner of the SF Chronicle Wine Competition, this wine is equally as impressive as the tricks being pulled off from the clever kids in Home Alone. Blended in our classic Anderson Valley style from various blocks and clones, this wine is bright scarlet in color with floral plum, cherry, and toasty French oak aromas and flavors. It will certainly keep you delighted as you dive into your holiday movie marathon, and don’t forget the Charcuterie Board!
